Long Beach City College administers a comprehensive student financial aid program to assist students in meeting college costs. The amount of financial aid awarded varies from student to student, depending on the individual's need and resources.
Financial awards are based on calculated financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Student budgets include educational expenses, such as tuition, fees, books, supplies, housing, food, transportation, childcare and personal expenses.
Financial aid recipients must adhere to the standards of progress of the financial aid programs.

Stretch Your College Dollars

Sometimes your college expenses can seem endless. These tips can help you experience college without going broke (Info from www.fastweb.com).

Budgeting Tips

Starting college means new responsibilities, including money management. What's the best way to keep an eye on expenses?
TIP 1: Budget in increments. Break your year into manageable increments, like months. Expenses such as utilities and rent are due on a monthly basis.
Tip 2: Figure out your total income. Remember to include sources such as student loans, scholarships, grants and work-study funds, in addition to money you may have from savings or a job.
Tip 3: Schedule when you receive income. If you have a loan or scholarship that won't be delivered until a particular semester, don't count that money as monthly income until you have the cash in hand.
Tip 4: Add up your monthly expenses. Besides the big ones like tuition and housing costs, don't forget to include books, food, clothing, toiletries, car-related costs (gas, parking, insurance), laundry and entertainment.
Tip 5: Review you budget. Once you create a budget, that doesn't mean things won't change. While tuition and dorm fees might be the same month-to-month, utilities and entertainment cost can fluctuate.
Tip 6: Keep a record of your expenses. Doing so for at least six months will give you an idea of how much you need to save each month for living and entertainment costs, which can be hard to estimate.
Tip 7: Split up larger expenses. Can you spread out your payments over several months? For example, some schools will allow you to set up a tuition payment plan so you aren't responsible for the whole lump sum at once. Ask your financial aid office if this is an option.
